DOCUMENTING LIFE
Taking in the little things.....
Welcoming a new baby into your family is one of life’s sweetest moments, and an in-home session is the perfect way to capture this fleeting time. These sessions are all about embracing the beauty of your everyday life and documenting the joy, love, and snuggles that come with having a newborn. To help you make the most of your session, here are some tips to prepare for your relaxed and laid-back experience.
Keep It Simple
In-home newborn sessions are meant to be natural and authentic. You don’t need to go overboard or creating a Pinterest-perfect environment. Instead, focus on tidying areas where you’d like to take photos, such as the nursery, master bedroom, or living room. A little natural light and a cozy space are all we need to create magic.
Dress Comfortably
Your wardrobe doesn’t need to be fancy. Neutral tones, soft fabrics, and simple patterns work beautifully in photos. Think of outfits that reflect your family’s personality while keeping everyone comfortable. Barefoot and cozy sweaters? Perfect. Baby swaddled in a soft blanket? Even better. Remember, this is about capturing the love and connection, not a fashion show.
Plan for a Relaxed Timeline
Our session will typically last about 1 to 1.5 hours. This gives us plenty of time for feedings, rocking baby, and baby snuggles—all of which make for lovely, candid moments. There’s no rush, and we’ll go with the flow to keep things stress-free.
Let the Light Lead
Natural light plays a big role in creating stunning images, so if possible, let’s schedule your session during the time of day when your home gets the best light. In general, around 10/10:30 am or 1/1:30pm tend to be good times for good light. Don’t worry though —I’ll help guide you on this based on your home’s layout.
Embrace the Snuggles
The heart of these sessions is documenting the connection between your family and your newest little love. Expect lots of snuggling, soothing, and admiring your baby. Whether it’s a tender moment of you rocking the baby, a sibling’s curious gaze, or your family piled on the bed, these are the moments you’ll cherish forever.
Keep Baby Comfortable
We’ll follow your baby’s lead during the session. If they need to eat, sleep, or be changed, we’ll pause and take our time. A well-fed and cozy baby makes for the sweetest photos. Feel free to have extra swaddles, diapers, and a pacifier handy if needed.
